THE FINE WOODWORKING COURSE
Course Intake for 2024 is open!
This course is run by Tim Blumfield, an experienced craftsman who has maintained his love of wood and traditional craftsmanship over many years since learning his trade in the City of York where he worked on restoration and joinery projects.
Build a box, build a table, build a chair or build something uniquely your own. This will be a very personalised experience and the first step will be to get in touch and discuss your project ideas with Tim, work through design ideas, work out what timber you will need and get a rough idea of how long it will take, this will depend on the complexity of the design and your skill levels.
Tim normally spends 2 days a week at the Centre, you can choose to spend one or two days over a negotiated period, this can be as flexible as it needs to be for you and your project. The minimum will be 6 days but can be extended depending on the project and your own commitments. The project will focus on skill development, working with hand tools as much as practical, but also developing skills in the use of the machinery that is typically available in woodwork shops.
You will be working in a dynamic workshop with multiple projects going on around you and we hope you will embrace the friendship and atmosphere of this very special place. There will be new boats being built, restoration projects on the go and all sorts of other activities. We love to see new people come into the workshop and welcome all skill levels, all genders and ages 18 to 180.. If there was ever a place where you could come to join in and be part of a community of like-minded people who simply love wood, love wooden boats and want to preserve traditional skills, this is it.
Courses will run in 2024, start dates are flexible, depending on participants. To find out more or discuss your ideas, firstly contact the WBC to register your interest, we will then arrange for you to visit the Centre, meet Tim and have a look around.
