Build your own skin-on-frame canoe or kayak based on your selected design here at the Wooden Boat Centre. We have the expertise, workshop space, tools and machinery to make your build a breeze and you will leave the Centre with a gorgeous lightweight boat ready to explore the beautiful lakes and waterways around the state. No experience is required, just a desire to learn and get hands-on in building your own boat!

There are a myriad of designs available online which we encourage you to explore until you find the one that suits you best. Then, get in touch and we can give you an idea of the material and tuition costs associated. As a general guide, most take between one and two weeks to complete with full tuition by a shipwright.

Construction of this vessel will introduce you to skin-on-frame building techniques and hone your fine wood-working skills (though we can also teach your from scratch - no prior wood-working skills necessary). It’s an excellent way to get a tase of boatbuilding without committing to several months of building. Sign up for a paddle course (usually run immediately following a canoe/kayak build) and allow one extra day to build a custom timber paddle if required.
